Players are to bring water and a soccer ball. We have ordered JLYSSL Jr Academy T-shirts for all players, but will need to give them out on April 12th.

JLYSSL U6-U8 Coaches are also encouraged to sign up (for Free) to learn and participate - Last year we had 25-30 coaches participate over the course of the Spring. Each coach will receive the lesson plan, so they can use that in their own practices.

U6-U8 Coaches interested to sign up can do so at http://www.sportability.com/spx/Leagues/League.asp?LgID=24159

“The U6-U8 coaches and players represent the foundation of our future” says JLYSSL Coaching Director Glenn Van Straatum who heads up the program again on behalf of the league. He has put together a training program for the development of both U6-U8 players and their coaches.

The program will allow players to learn individual ball skills and work on becoming excellent dribblers and have a lot of comfort on the ball. Participating U6-U8 Coaches will learn by actively working with groups of players (not necessarily their own players).

Our goal is to increase the number of touches per player in a small sided game environment.

Player Development
Players will learn key age-appropriate soccer skills. In the player component of the Academy program, players will be coached by a top-licensed coaches to learn individual moves and small sided games to put those moves to work. At the fundamental level, games will be 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or sometimes 4v4.

Coaches Development
U6-U8 coaches are invited to join the coaching component of the Academy. In the coaches component of the Academy program the U6-U8 coaches will work with a licensed Coaching Instructor to learn all the details of the approach of their age-groups and the coaching points and games that enable players to excel.

Who can join the JLYSSL Jr Academy?
U6-U8 players from all JLYSSL clubs can join the JLYSSL Jr Academy.

The U.S. Soccer Federation's Player Development Guidelines point out that "At the younger ages (6 to about 10), soccer is not a team sport. On the contrary, it is a time for players to develop their individual relationship with the ball.

"You can learn the tactical side of the game later," says Landon Donovan. "But if you don't learn at an early age to be good on the ball, then it's just useless. Do not demand that the more confident players share the ball. Encourage them to be creative and go to goal. Do the same for the rest of your players."
