Team Summaries Mariners Notes:
With baseball gear and jerseys still wet from the night before, the Mariners joined with the Astros to prep the field furiously in order to get the Caldecott swamp ready for play. John B. pitched four plus innings, striking out 6, and did a great job overall, stealing four bases on the day, and added a sweet diving stop of a hard grounder up the middle, then completed the play by popping up and throwing out the runner at first. Unfortunately, the Mariners defense had some miscues throughout which the Astros took full advantage of to score the bulk of their runs in the first two innings. Zach B. pitched a solid two plus innings and only gave up a couple of runs, and added a couple of hits to boot. Nate M. provided solid defense behind the plate and at first, and hit a screamer to dead center that unfortunately was right at the CF. Sam F. played a solid second base, and contributed with a hit up the middle that drove in the Mariner's second run. Jesse W. cooled off the hot corner with his defense as he made one particularly smooth pick up and throw to first. Xhjyl K.had his first hit of the season with a towering double to left field. The Mariners kept an upbeat attitude as they believed they were always in the game, especially as they the injured Christian C. came to cheer on his teammates. Mariners ball was at its best when they put down the Astros 1-2-3 in one inning, but there just wasn't enough of those innings to help the young Mariners prevail on this breezy Sunday afternoon.
