GAME 1 - BUCS B VS. ROGUE ALE
Great start last night guys – a 3-2 win over Rogue Ale. Good news is that Rogue Ale team appears to be pretty representative of the B League level of play, which means this should work out just fine for us. Last season Rogue Ale went 17-8 and this past summer went 7-10 (but from their scores, appeared to be competitive throughout).
So, we’re clearly in the right place here.
First, kudos.
To John Arturo for his hat trick. John scored once in each period on hard working plays to provide the margin for victory. His line was terrific, all night.
To goalie Wild Bill Linne, who came up huge on a number of plays. He faced many more shots than we would like, and we’ll have to cut down on them, but he was a major reason for our win.
To Paul Stagnitto, who played both F and D and played exceptionally well.
To Brad Mowbray, who seemed a little tentative during the first period then came on very strong as the game progressed. To Jack Elliot, who arrived 7 minutes into the first period and on his first shift chased down a loose puck and promptly planted a kiss onto the sidewall boards.
To Matt Stolarnik for sharing his dinner with the trash can behind the bench and reminding us all what it’s like to be 22 again!!! Hope you’re feeling better this morning!!
It was a good game and we played just well enough to win. We definitely looked a little out of sorts but that’s excepted with a team that’s really completely brand new. There are a number of things we need to fine-tune. Our breakout wasn’t particularly good but we’ll fix that. I thought our neutral zone play was strong and we were creative in the attacking zone. All that will come. Defensively, we definitely left the center of the slot open, but after discussing that between 2nd and 3rd periods, I think we adjusted well in the third, although their goal that made the game 3-2 came from precisely that spot (but that was my coverage zone, so I’m to blame on that one)! We also struggled a bit in front of our own net, in terms of clearing loose pucks but we’ll improve there as well.
Despite the size of our team, the lineup worked great. Actually, Dave Hemmer was sick and Bill Ruvo had home power issues so we had exactly 9 Fs and 6 Ds.
Lineup:
Line 1 Ray Ciesinski – Steve Winter – Dan Hegarty Line 2 Matt Stolarnik – Steve Fisher – Brad Mowbray Line 3 Brian Taylor – John Arturo – Paul Rowan
Def 1 Paul Battaglia – Rob Stewart Def 2 Gerry Yantis – Jack Elliott Def 3 Paul Stagnitto – Shane Reighart
Goal Wild Bill Linne
GAME 2 - BUCS VS. CINCINNATI BOWTIES
Thanks to Dan and Mark Logan for providing me with wrapup reports.
Sounds like we got a great performance out of everybody to post an 11-6 win over the Bowties. We had two A players in our lineup – Mark and Tom Kennedy and sounds like they played well without being so dominant that it raised eyebrows within the league. The stats have not yet been posted but it sounds like we got two or three goals from Tom Kennedy, two from John Arturo and solo scores from Mark, Jack and Dan. There may have been others.
We dominated from top to bottom and Dan Rall played well enough for us to win. Can’t ask for more than that!!!
Hated missing the game guys, but I will be back for the next one.
GAME 3 BUCS B VS. BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON MINUTEMEN
Have you ever had a game where simply everything went wrong?
If you haven’t before, and if you’re a member of the Bucs B team, you have now.
Last night was brutal. The Sportability website says we lost 5-2 to the Booz Allen Minutemen but we know the truth. We beat ourselves. This was just one of those games where everything went wrong. Collectively, virtually every guy on the team had trouble handling the puck. We threw blind passes all over the ice, we had too many guys trying to carry the puck through the entire opposing team, our centers didn’t come back deep enough to cover the slot, our defensemen weren’t strong around the net. And our power play was atrocious. We had numerous man advantage opportunities, including some extended 5 on 3s but we couldn’t get any flow going.
Essentially, we were a mess.
First period started with promise when Matt Stolarik buried the rebound of a John Arturo shot. We gave up a power play goal later in the period and from that point on the ragged play abounded. We gave up 3 goals in the second period, all from the front of the net and then a fifth goal early in the third, again on a rebound. Stephen Fisher buried the rebound of a shot by Dan to give us life with nine minutes left, but despite real effort, we just couldn’t connect on anything else.
Chris Lynch, our Dinosaurs roller hockey goalie, tended nets for us and played a good game.
Lineup:
Line 1 (4 players) Matt Stolarik – John Arturo – Stephen Fisher – Brian Taylor Line 2 (4 players) Bill Ruvo – Wint – Ray Ciesinski – Dan Hegarty Def 1 Shane Reighard – Jack Elliott Def 2 Paul Battaglia – Dave Hemmer Goalie Chris Lynch
