The Heat is on!
Last Updated: 6/5/2002
Dateline June 5, 2002- The past 3 weeks have shown an abundance of Reds highlights which included a 6 game winning streak. The first playoff game featuring the Reds and the Firebirds showed a team looking like the a smaller version of the 1970's Big Red Machine. Now the Reds look forward to a Saturday semi-final game. Come to Witter Field in Piedmont as the game will begin at either 4 or 5pm. We'll update the schedule soon.
Dateline May 12, 2002- Excellent pitching and flashes of outstanding Defense allowed the Reds to sweep their games over the weekend, 6-0 over a tough Firebirds team and 2-1 over a scrappy Pelicans squad. Giving up just 1 run in a weekend is a tall order. Let's hope the Reds keep that consistency in tact as they have two tough games again this weekend against the Pawsox and the Mets.
Dateline May 5, 2002- Cinco de Mayo sends the Reds home happy with a 5 run rally in the bottom of the 7th inning to steal a game from a super Cubbies effort. The bats and the defense are beginning to come into shape. The Reds continue to battle and never roll over regardless of the score. This next week will again prove to be tough as the Reds take on the Firebirds at Witter on Sat. at 1pm and the Pelicans at Willard on Sun. at 12:30.

After this past weekend the Reds now can appreciate the fact that there is a "Baseball God!" And the "Baseball Gods" are not always kind. First it was the defense that was cursed against the Missions. After a post game exorcizing, complete with team flush, the team rebounded on Sunday against the Pawsox. The tried and true adage that Pitching and defense are a good script for success still apply. Yet,as the Reds discovered against the Pawsox, that may not be enough if the runs "don't cometh." The Reds return to action on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 on the newly renovated Caldecott Field. The Cubbies will be a tough opponent as the Reds continue their 2002 baseball journey.

Home Notes:
The regular season NOLL Division winners completed a successful playoff run with 5-3 victory over the Cubbies, the top seed from SOLL. It was a classic pitchers dual as Kevin R. and closer Lucas F. held the Cubbies to two hits while striking out 11 batters. Cubbies hurler, Carl M., pitched a super game and held the Reds bats in check for much of the game. Yet, the Reds were able to put the ball in play and scratched out 5 runs over 4 seperate innings. A long double from Lucas gave the Reds a 1-0 advantage after 3 innings. The Cubbies answered with 3 runs of their own in the top of the fourth with the help of just one infield hit. The Reds answered in the bottom of the 4th with 1 of their own on the heels of a base hit and some aggressive base running from Ben Z. to close the gap to 3-2. In the bottom of the 5th the Reds tied the game on a base hit from Jon C. who later came around and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch to give the Reds a 4-3 lead. Reds lefty, Keith H. continued to pound the ball and collected his second hit in the bottom of the 6th inning and scored on a grounder from Kenny P. to complete the scoring. In a display of excellent Reds pitching the Cubbies did not hit a ball into the outfield during the game. Catcher Ben Z. continued hit streak of assists and other solid defensive plays were turned in by the infield of Andrew C., Keith, Lucas, Kevin and Jon. This marks the end of the NOLLSOLL Senior American Championship Series. The Reds have obtained the elusive Holy Grail of North Oakland Baseball and have been rumored to be the winners of the unheard of 'triple crown' (Season Division Winner, Tournament Winner, and N1 vs S1 Final). A super season that was a ton of fun, with lots of good baseball! We'll see you on the Diamond!
