In a thrilling, second round elimination game versus the Astros at Witter Field last night, the Angels managed to pull out a victory and move onto the Juniors Championship Series by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Astros had built a 2-0 lead with one run scored on a squeeze bunt in the 4th inning, and two singles in the 7th inning.
Eddie H. pitched a 79 pitch, complete game, recording 6 K’s and no walks. In the 6th inning, Mike W. recorded a 9-3 out at first to turn back the Astros’ charge. For the Astros, Charlie W. and Powell F. held the Angels bats in check until the bottom of the 7th inning, when Alex W. led off by working a walk, Jack H. singled to right, and Mike M. hit a long fly ball to left that fell in for 1 RBI. Vince B. followed with an RBI fielder’s choice that scored the tying run on a close play at the plate. With Mike M. on third base, Mike W. singled through the middle to drive in the winning run.
