Pelicans Notes:
Everyone knows that when you match up longtime coaches all you can do is throw the records out the window and hope for extra innings! The DBacks and Pels didn't disappoint this afternoon at beautiful Caldecott field.

Pelicans' Birthday boy Coolhand Luke settled down after a difficult opening frame to put 5 innings in the book, notching 8 strikeouts in the process. Killer Kyle followed with 3 2/3 innings of 2 hit ball.

Kyle and Luke were helped by a series of great defensive plays. Stripes took a ball up the middle himself and pivoted a perfect double play; Special K prevented the game winning run from scoring in the 7th with a spectacular pick from a drawn in position at third base; earlier in the 7th, Docto Feelgood kept the game alive by refusing to let a perfectly placed popup fall in shallow right field.

The Pels offense was a one man show - in the top of the first, the Pels asked their big hitter Bulldog to lay down a suicide squeeze, and he did so to perfection. Then, with the game on the line, Bulldog came through with a big hit. With 2 outs and down by 2, Bulldog's single to left field plated the tying runs and extended this game into extra innings!

Best of luck to both teams Sunday!
