What a great evening of lacrosse. The weather was perfect, the stands were full and the teams were ready for a battle for a birth in the Finals of the 4A division.

Great job by the officials keeping everyone safe, but letting the boys play. Well officiated game.

1st Quarter:
Skyline won the opening faceoff and controlled the ball running a very patient offence. Curtis Defense was sold and did not crumble. Once Curtis got a turn over, they had a transition goal to go up 1 - 0 at the 10:21 mark. Skyline won the face. Continuing to play solid patient offense, #8 Beckett Monday slipped open and buried a goal to knot it up at the 7:36 mark. Skyline continued to possess the ball and #1 Ryan Edwards netted the ball at 4:23 and 3:05 to put Skyline up 3-1. Curtis won only its second face of the quarter. Skyline gained possession and called time out. After stick checks Skyline had a 2 min none releasable. Curtis capitalized on the Man up scoring with 0:36 left. Skyline’s #17 Conor Voigt was on his faceoff game tonight winning the 4 of the 6 face-offs in the quarter. They held position to start the 2nd without face.
Curtis 2 / Skyline 3

2nd Quarter:
The 2nd was a patient offense by Skyline with an outstanding defense by Curtis on the one end and missed transition by Curtis on the other end. The game went back and forth till the 4:54 mark when Curtis’ Andrew Janicki switch to midfield got a short stick match up and found the back of the net tying the game. Looking like it was going to go into the half knotted up. Curtis had a pushing call with 2:00 left in the quarter. Curtis was able to kill the penalty, but in the transition back to 6v6 All American #22 Joe Vermeulen used his speed over the top got his hands free and stung the net to put Skyline up by 1 at the 1:09 mark. This deflated Curtis and gave Skyline an energy surge. Conor continued to win face-offs and Joe followed his last goal up by doing the same speed move and stung the net again at the 0:13 mark. Conor was fired up and won the face clean and hit #8 Beckett Monday for another goal giving Skyline a 3 goal lead happening in 60 seconds.
Cutis 3 / Skyline 6
3rd Quarter:
Curtis came out of half never giving up, but never getting their free moving offense working. Many dropped passes and missed opportunities. Skyline remained disciplined and executed their game plan to perfection. Adding 2 more to the score board at 10:34 and again at 1:38 extending their lead into the 4th.
Curtis 3 / Skyline 8

4th Quarter:
Curtis’ #15 Peter Stewart showed his face-off skills like he had been all year and won the draw. All American #11 George Phelps for Curtis grabbed the ground ball and found his brother (Future All American) #1 Charlie Phelps for a goal 15 seconds into the quarter. Curtis had energy again, but Skyline responded with goals at the 10:47 and 10:05 mark extending their lead to 6. Curtis continued to fight hard and played strong defense gaining the ball back Curtis’s #4 Rocco Koch showed his speed strength and talent and cleared the ball from end to end and stung the net at the 9:20 point energizing the Curtis sideline. 2 excellent saves by Cole Miller in the next 4 minutes of play slowed that energy, yet Curtis kept fighting. They netted another at the 2:26 mark bringing it within 4 to force Skyline to keep it in the box. Curtis was pressuring out on the ball and doubling to try to gain possession and escape artist Beckett Monday got free and stung the net with 1:47 left. Conor Voigt won the ensuing face-off and Skyline burned the rest of the clock.
Curtis 6 / Skyline 11

Congratulations to Skyline and good luck in the Finals. This game was tilted in favor of Skyline by the amazing face-off show by Conor Voigt winning 14 and only losing 6 on the night. The missed opportunities by Curtis were quickly scooped up by Skyline players wining the ground ball battle 30 to 15.

A shout out to Curtis Goalie Bill Correll with 16 saves on the night for a save percentage of 0.59%.

Congratulations to Curtis on a great year. I know we came up short of our objective, but you played a fun free moving team style this year and it was a joy to be a part of.
