Team Summaries | Giants Notes: No umpires signed up for this game so a Mets parent umpired behind home and a Giants parent umped the bases. Not ideal but glad they stepped up! Thanks Blue Parents! Sunday afternoon doldrums weighed down the Giants early, as they gave up 9 runs to the Mets in the first 2 innings on 7 walks, 2 IF hits, and a bit of sloppy play and misfortune. A Texas popup dropped behind 1B, a thick patch of grass ate up a little nubber between the Giants pitcher and third baseman, the Giants SS vision was obscured by a Mets runner hopping over what should have been a routine grounder. It seemed like nothing was going the Giants way and the Mets refused take their foot off the gas. Ellis came out of the pen to stop the bleeding with the Giants down 9-2 after 2, holding the jubilant Mets scoreless in the 3rd and 4th innings. Javi followed with 2 shutout innings of his own to close the game. But the Mets’ early onslaught would prove to be more than enough to win this one. The Giants offense woke up in the 6th inning as they scored 3 runs on 3 hits and a couple of walks, but the switch was turned on a bit too late and the Giants took the L. Mets Notes: |
