Wahoos Notes:
This was a game full of intense moments and quick, sometimes curious reversals of fortune. The Wahoos came out swinging with three consecutive hits from Kobe, Lucas, and Maxie (a RBI double), but then a batter interference call wiped out a second run at the plate and the momentum shifted to the Muckdogs, who ran up a 8-1 lead over the first two innings. From the third inning on, the Wahoos’ offense cranked back into gear, with strong hits from Austin, Ben, Jack, Zach, and Finn (a blast to left field that became a triple). The momentum seemed decisively to shift in the Wahoos’ direction after a shutdown inning from Maxie, which featured an epic 11-pitch strikeout of a Muckdogs hitter who later rocketed an incredible shot to deep left field. After two strong innings from Ben on the mound and a final sixth-inning rally from the Wahoos, the team was up 12-11 (a lead that would have been greater if, in one of those curious reversals of fortune, Finn’s glove hadn’t developed a hole in its webbing when he caught a strong throw at first base in the fifth inning). Beckett pitched very well in the bottom of the sixth, but the balls struck by the Muckdogs kept eluding our infielders’ gloves, and the Muckdogs pulled ahead for a final time, 13-12.
