Game Summary | The Sugar Kings survived a furious comeback by the Monarchs to hold on to a 7-4 victory in the teams' opener at Back Caldecott. Down 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth, the Monarchs' tenacity put 3 runs on the board and had the winning run at the plate when the Sugar Kings finally tallied the third out. Nate Hill showed no early season rust as he pitched 3 innings, giving up only one hit and striking out eight. Joey Catanzarite and Peter Counts combined for six more strikeouts in relief. Monarch starter Nick Wright matched Hill's eight strikeouts in his impressive three innings of work. Offensively, the Sugar Kings were helped by 2 solid RBI singles by cleanup hitter Guillermo Arroyo. Nick Wright complemented his pitching performance with two impressive singles to help his own cause. Luke Joachim turned in the gutsy performance of the day for the Monarchs by both playing in the field and batting one day after having a wrist cast removed. |
