Game Summary The Cats clinched the AA regular-season crown with a 9-1 win over the Knights on May 18. The Cats, now 10-0, have at least a two-game lead with just one game to play. With the loss, the Knights are now 5-3.
The Cats led 2-0 after the first inning: The team's big batter of the day, Luke Bowyer, led off with a single and scored on Nick Regent's single. Regent was later pushed home by Tyler Lear's walk. In the third, Bowyer scored again after a single and three straight walks. Maya Schacker earned the run-scoring pass.
The Cats broke out in the fourth, scoring six runs and putting the game out of reach of the Knights. Bowyer drove in two with his third single of the game, Joshua Barza doubled home a run, and Alex Sommer and Regent singled in one each.
The Knights got on the board in the sixth: Marshall Lymburn led off with a double and scored on Alon August's single. The Knights looked to be rallying when Jack Coppinger then singled but after an overthrow kept the Knights running the bases, pitcher Alex Levine fired home to catcher Schacker, who was upended by August but held on to the ball and tagged him out. Levine followed up with two strikeouts to finish the game.
Levine finished with seven strikeouts in three innings; Cats starter Gabriel D'Ambrosio whiffed eight Knights in his three innings. Knights starter Jonathan Heil set down the Cats in order in the second and struck out three, while closer Alex Musbach fanned five Cats over two innings.
