Game Summary The AA Cats continued their undefeated season with a 5-4 victory over the Ports. The Cats are now 8-0, in first place with a two-game lead; the Ports are 2-5, 5-1/2 games behind.
The Cats opened the scoring with two runs in the first inning. Luke Bowyer led off with a single, and came home on Gabriel D'Ambrosio's triple to left. A ground out by Galen Emigh drove in D'Ambrosio.
D'Ambrosio pitched two innings, holding the Ports to one run. In the second, the Ports Stephen Turney walked and scored on a bases-loaded ground out by Elan Bernstein, who had three RBI.
Leading 2-1 in the third, the Cats struck for another three runs. John McAvoy and Bowyer singled, and Nick Regent drove in one run with a ground out. D'Ambrosio then hit his team-leading fourth homer of the year to bring in two more.
The Cats Tori Burns pitched three innings, facing just six batters in the third and fourth. The Ports got two in the fifth: Eric Huppert and Henry Staley singled, and Bernstein smashed the ball under the outfield fence for a ground-rule double that drove in two.
In the sixth the Ports bats and one Cats glove made for an exciting finish. With Cats closer Bowyer on the mound, Dermot Harris singled, went to second on a sacrifice by Cricky Blossom, and scored on Turney's single. With the tying run on first and two outs, Huppert hit a high fly to shallow right field. Cats sure-handed outfielder Joshua Barza backpedaled and as he fell caught the ball for the final out. He was mobbed by his teammates for ending the close game with a spectacular play.
