Game Summary | In a makeup of an early season rainout, the Rockhounds (5-4) exploded in the first inning for six runs and held on for a 10-4 victory over the Redwings (4-3-1) on Tuesday night. The Rockhounds opening volley was protected by the Rockhounds outstanding new starter Jesse Wheaton, who pitched three shutout innings, yielding only 2 hits and 1 walk while recording 8 strikeouts. The Rockhounds bats were largely silenced after the first by the terrific middle relief of Redwings pitcher Steve Cannon, save for two swings by Rockhounds Zaddy Benham and Jordan Yee, each of which yielded two run homers to give the Rockhounds the cushion they needed. The Redwings rallied in the fourth and fifth innings, with a particularly big inning anchored by Marcel Bullard, who smacked a bases-clearing triple. The Redwings threatened again in the sixth, but Rockhounds closer Matthew Goodwin allowed no runs to seal the victory. |
