| Game Summary | In a game of previously unbeaten teams at Montara, the Rockhounds defeated the Scorpions 16-10. The Scorpions led early 3-1, but the Rockhounds erupted for ten runs in the second inning on nine hits. The Scorpions responded with a pair of runs in the third and three in the fourth to bring the game closer at 11-8. The Rockhounds added four more runs in the 5th and hung on for victory as the Scorpions left the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings. For the Scorpions, pitchers Danny Maccarone, Connor Smith and Zack Henrikson combined for ten strikeouts. Offensive punch was provided by Henrikson who went 2 for 4 and Nathan Mamuyac who went 2 for 3 including a late inning triple. The Rockhounds had 19 hits overall, led by Peter Baldwin who hit for the cycle and pitched two strong innings. Matt Goodwin made his pitching debut by striking out three in one inning. He also helped his cause with three hits, including a double. Jonathon Lomax hit a towering home-run to right field and Henry Zaballos pitched two strong innings while contributing a pair of singles. Good defensive work, especially by Zaddy Benham and Pascal Cristofalo, protected the Rockhound lead. Another great day of baseball! |
