The Eagles and Sounds had a fantastic opening day. The Sounds jumped out to an early lead and by the end of the 3rd, it was 5-0. The Sounds pitching was excellent all afternoon striking out 11 Eagles, five of them looking. The Eagles pitching was equally as good, as 6 pitchers combined for 12 K's over 6 strong innings. The Eagles couldn't string base runners together while the Sounds however, found a way to get more kids on base throughout the game and had a several clutch hits including a big lead off triple. The Eagles continued to fight and in the fourth got a run home on two singles and a stolen base. Both teams added a run in the 5th. After Eagles pitching closed down the Sounds hitters with 8 pitches in the top of the 6th, the Eagles loaded the bases with two outs and the heart of the Eagles order coming to the plate. A beautiful full count change up ended the game with a called 3rd strike and opening day was in the books. Sounds 6 Eagles 2. Special recognition goes to Bob Ellis and Micah Bloom, who came out of the stands to umpire. They were terrific.
