Astros Notes:
The Astros put on their defensive shoes and together with the tough Twins defense, a spirited 2 hour contest was played as the rain gave way to clearing skies under the lights at Willard. The Astros struck early and made it stick, as A-Ron, Spencer and Big Dog all drove extra base hits in the opening frame en route to a 3-0 early lead. From there, Bryce took the hill and set the defensive tone early, picking off 2 Twins, while the Big Dog (Sean) threw out 2 others while stealing. The highlight was a pair of double plays, the first off a suicide squeeze, which, though it scored one of the Twins runs, it also ended an inning, as Bryce hopped off the mound, fired to 1st and Spencer fired it back home as another Twin was bearing down on the plate where the Big Dog laid down the tag. The second DP came in the 7th. After walking the leadoff batter, Spencer speared a sharp grounder headed up the middle, erased the runner at 2nd, and A-Ron fired the ball to 1st just in time. 2 putouts in CF by Griffen were key to keeping the big Twin bats off the bases. Solid pitching, great defense, and just enough offense carried the Astros to their league best 8th win.
