An all-around solid high school lacrosse game between two quality teams as Issaquah lost a heartbreak to Rutgers Prep in double overtime 10-9.

Prep possessed the ball nearly the entire first quarter. Issaquah defense played outstanding but failed clears kept giving Prep possession. Somehow Issaquah made the most of it's two minutes of possession and scramble plays at the end of the period to lead 3-1. It started with a fluke goal from Zach Fritz on an intended pass with 2:32 on the clock. Kevin Powers scored his first with 0:29 left and Ben Director got his first with 0:02 left.

In the second quarter Issaquah continued to shoot themselves with failed clears from unforced errors. Playing too much defense began to catch up to the purple and gold and Prep began finish. Two goals for Rutgers Prep in the last two minutes of the half, both off simple backdoor cuts on the crease seemed to be back breakers. To make matters worse, Issaquah took a penalty with just 10 seconds left in the half.

Starting man-down and tired in the 2nd half, things looked bleek for Issaquah, but they managed to kill the penalty and Powers second goal immediately after gave Issaquah life. Issaquah carried the momentum, Powers began winning faceoffs and Issaquah owned the quarter on back of two goals from Matt O'Neill to take an 8-7 lead into the fourth.

Rutgers Prep regrouped and took back the lead with two goals in the first four minutes of the period. The rest of the period saw great defensive work from Issaquah's Aidan McDonald and Austin Richert to keep winning chances for Issaquah to equalize. Prep's keeper made some big saves including a chance from Powers but a great kick save sent the ball out of bounds on the sideline and Prep won the race with just over 2 minutes left. As Prep tried to stall out the time, Issaquah ran the double to perfection as Richert and Lindor stripped the ball to earn Issaquah a final chance. With 20 seconds left, Matt O'Neill was able to dip inside for a shot, the keeper made a great first save but ended up on his seat and Director put back in the rebound to tie it with 12 seconds left.

Issaquah actually won the next faceoff; after a slight bobble, Lindor came up with the ball and pushed to Powers. Powers drove and ripped a shot that found the back of the net but it was a second after the whistle... overtime.

In OT, Rutgers Prep had first possession, but Issaquah had the best chances in the period. First chance came off a great one-two passing combo that found Michael Hatcher cutting right down on cage but his shot hit a defender sliding in front. Jake Fritz came up with a huge strip on the resulting clear and won a second chance for Issaquah. With under 30 seconds left, Director ran past his man from top center and was able to get within 10 yards of the cage but was handcuffed as he attempted to get a shot off and the ball fell easily to the keeper. Prep cleared and called timeout with 5 seconds left but was able to produce nothing... double overtime.

In the second OT Prep managed to call timeout a split second before Issaquah stripped the faceoff and Issaquah would never see the ball again. Issaquah stymied Rutgers Prep for a minute but the winning goal finally came when Prep initiated from X. A slight slip from an Issaquah defender gave the attackman a step and forced Issaquah to slide early. Prep was able to get a pass across the face of the goal to the back pipe for a catch and low bouncer finish.
