Mets Notes: No notesDBacks Notes: OAKLAND, Ca. -- Sunday baseball showcased a Gold Division clash between the host Mets and Diamondbacks. The way the game started, no one would have guessed that runs would prove to be a premium.
The first batter of the game, Rerun, launched a triple to deep right center. Moose promptly knocked him in to score on a ground ball to the shortstop. Waldo and Gazelle would tack on singles in the top of the 1st, but would fail to score. The Mets answered with a run of their own to make it 1-1.
The DBacks added a run in the 2nd inning when B.A. scored on a single by Rerun. Reluctant to allow the DBacks to hold a lead, the Mets again answered with a run of their own to make it 2-2 after 2.
Persistent to end an inning with the lead, the DBacks scored again in the top of the 3rd. Sometimes led off with a single and later scored on an RBI single by Dash for a 3-2 DBack lead. This time the lead would hold for an inning as the Mets were retired in order after a leadoff single. After holding the DBacks scoreless in the 4th, the Mets added a run to knot the score again at 3-3.
Rerun and Sometimes both scored for the DBacks in the top of the 5th on an RBI ground out by Waldo for a 5-3 lead. This lead would prove to be too much to overcome as Bump allowed just 1 run in 4 innings while striking out a season high 8 batters. Bump and Sometimes would combine to give up just 2 hits.
