Team Summaries | Issaquah Notes: MBA 2-0-3-0 7 Issaquah 3-4-3-2 12 Issaquah started the '09 campaign on the right foot posting a win over a 6-0, Montgomery Bell Academy team from Tennessee as part of the annual Northwest Invitational. A good start for the men in gold on unassisted goals from Jake Director and Riley Goodman, but then a tentative rest of the quarter saw plenty of first game sloppy play. After MBA tied the game with 55 seconds in the quarter, Issaquah scored its only transition goal of the night 20 seconds later, a Jake Fritz finish from Director. Issaquah then began winning groundballs and took full momentum in the 2nd quarter. After an unassisted Jordan Goldstein tally, Kevin Powers had a hand in three straight goals with an assist to Fritz and two unassisted goals himself, both coming from winning groundballs off of broken plays. 7-2 Issaquah at half. Issaquah appeared ready to pull away and end the game early in the third as Goldstein scored again and Fritz completed his hat-trick. However, some poor clearing and a bad man-up giveaway led to two straight MBA goals and kept them in it. Teams traded goals to end the period and Issaquah retained the five goal margin into the 4th. Sensational back to back goals from Goldstein put the game out of reach and Issaquah simply possessed and ran out much of the final six minutes. Four freshmen all played significant minutes and each contributed well. Junior, defenseman, Alexei Burtscher played superb on defense in his first varsity appearance, playing all 48 minutes. Dan Bressler made 5 saves in net for the win. Montgomery Bell Academy Notes: |
