With the right to advance to the Noll AAA Championship game on the line, the Muckdogs stepped up with an impressive 16-2 win over the Devil Rays Thursday evening. Avenging two early season losses to the Rays, the Muckdogs struck early with 4 runs in the 1st inning on triples by Elan S (2-3) and Jack D (2-3) and singles by Leo F and Tom R (2-2). D and R combined for key hits again in the 4th as the Dogs extended their lead to 7-2. In the bottom of the 5th, the Muckdogs broke the game wide open as Patrick D and David L ignited a 7-hit, 9-run rally that including base clearing doubles by Lucas F and Darius S. Most impressive however was the Muckdogs stellar pitching and defensive performances. Starting pitcher Cole F recorded the win with complete game, 2-hit gem. F struck out 5 while walking only 2 and faced the minimum three batters in 4 of his 6 innings of work. The Rays scored 2 runs in the 4th on Blair B's 2-out double following a hard hit ball by Oliver P and walk to Olivia S. Gavin L and Lucas F made sparkling plays at shortstop highlighted by a 6-3 double play in the top of the 5th. |
