Location Willard MS Pelicans
Game Type Normal
Game Summary Incredible pitching performances and defense on both sides kept this game 1-1 after 7 innings. In the top half of the 8th, the Reds loaded the bases and then brought in 3 runs. The Pelicans put up a fight in the bottom half, but couldn't make up the deficit.

The Pels were led by Ali WS, who pitched 7 incredible innings, and Eric M, who kept them in it offensively with 2 solid hits. Eric would have had 2 more hits had it not been for defensive gems by the Reds' third baseman and shortstop. Andy S pitched the fateful 8th, and should be commended for coming into a pressure packed situation and keeping the Pelicans in the game.

For the Reds, Opening Night of the 2001 season was highlighted by solid pitching and sparkling defense. Kevin R. at SS and Lucas F. at 3B each made highlight reel plays, Matt C. made some great scoops at 1B, and Joe B. made several put-outs including an on-the-money relay throw to the plate to prevent the Pels from taking the lead in the bottom of the 6th. Jeff G. tossed 4 shutout innings, Matt C. gave up just 1 run in 4 innings of relief, and Matt T. and JM had the big RBI hits to put the Reds over the top in this well played and entertaining game.
