The Royals took on the undefeated Giants in the late game at Chabot Saturday and handed the Giants their first loss of the season. The game was exciting from the outset with the Giants taking a 1 run lead in the first inning on a single up the middle by JoeyC. The Royals were hitting the ball but the Giants defense was not allowing anything to drop. SamS (3-1) pitched out of several jams, allowing 4 hits and striking out 8. Finally in the 5th inning ChrisK singled to start the inning. SamS sacrificed him over to 3rd on some daring running and scored to tie the game when a pitch got past the catcher. In the bottom of the 5th the Giants loaded the bases with no outs but SamS induced two strikeouts and a hard hit ground ball up the middle which shortstop JeremyB deflected to second baseman TommyO who got the force at second. Once again the Royals trademark of tough defense held true. In the top of the 6th ZachZ induced a walk. JeremyB was the hero as he grounded a single up the middle scoring the go ahead run. In the bottom of the 6th the Giants got the tying run in scoring position but once again SamS worked out of the jam inducing a comebacker to the end the game. For the Giants PedroD pitched an excellent game allowing 5 hits and striking out 9.
