In a nail biting, down-to-the wire test of wills, Sr. Black defeated the Glastonbury Select team, in Glastonbury, 9-8. Lead by the remarkable goaltending of Julia Szafman and some very aggressive play by Black's offense, Glastonbury's Best could not keep up in the end. Chas Kerin with a team record high of 5 goal and 1 assist, teamed up with veteran offensive partners Nikki Huynh and Kayleigh Donnelly to control the tempo of the game. With less than a minute to play, Nikki Huynh (1 goal, 1 assist) fed the ball, from behind the goal, to Abigail Doelger (1 goal, 2 assists) who broke the tie. Liz Brown (2 goals, 1 assist), Emily Nitti, Sam Molodetz, Anna Bersin, Claire Wheeler, Tess Miler, Melanie Reagan and Sarah Steinle played tirelessly in a game with few substitutes. Solid performances by first year players Lauren Cannon, Nikki Rodriguez, Abby Condon, Bailey Kelly and Delaney Kelly helped Sr. Black defeat this very competitive Glastonbury team. Plans have already begun to schedule a re-match later in the season. |
