| Game Summary | The Girls Under 12 Strikers continued their recent good form by winning their second Tournament of the summer when they defeated Bulingame Power in the final of the Baker Boot by a score of 2-1. The Strikers started the tournament on the artificial turf of Miramonte high school and found it difficult to adapt to the environment. Despite having numerous goal scoring chances and the defense not being really threatened the game against Pacifica Blaze ended in a 0-0 scoreless tie. Their next game was against Central Valley Lightening who had beaten the Strikers at an earlier tournament. This time with a full squad the Girls played an excellent game and goals in both halves by Shoshana Wangerin and Lena Driscoll gave the team a 2-1 victory. On Sunday morning knowing that a shutout and a minimum of Three goal victory was needed to insure a Championship game the girls put on a marvellous performance by beating Walnut Creek 5-0. Lena Driscoll scored an excellent opening goal and then Shoshan Wangerin followed with two goals, one on a great assist by Jennel Anderson.Then a text book Indirect free kick by Tera Piserchio added another and she was on hand again a couple of minutes later to finish a good attacking move for a comprehensive victory. The final was against a Burlingame team that had won all three games including a victory over Lamorinda. Despite an early scare it was the Strikers that dominated play and they were reward when a corner form Lean Driscoll was smashed home from the edge of the box by captain Mel Torres. Despite having the majority of the play the Power were still threatening but the game was put beyond doubt when a beautiful through ball form Shoshana was emphatically finished by Jennel Anderson. Burlingame continued to fight back and were rewarded with a consolation goal but the Strikers thoroughly deserved the victory. The result of this tournament was very gratifying form a Squad perspective as every girl contributed and the ability to rotate players with no fall off in ability meant that the heat was removed as a factor . Withe pre season Tournaments over the team looks forward to its league campaign knowing that every game will be a challenge withe level of competition at this age group getting better all the time.
