Game Summary When shots were 29-2 in the beginning of the second period, a player with 'A'-League skills got his second point--a goal on a breakaway. Video was taken of the player. The team would only name the player as Alex. Pretty clearly the team knew the last name of the player because he must have been the son of one of the other players, but the team declined to provide the last name. The player had been literally skating circles around the entire Ice Age team and was totally dominating.

The Pelicans told me as an excuse, when the D-level caliber of the player was challenged, 'Everybody does it;' 'We are going to win anyway, so it doesn't matter;' 'He only scored one goal (omitting that he also had an assist and was dominating thoroughly);' 'Ice Age is the worst team--we can't help it if we're outshooting them by 29 to 2;' and my personal favorite, 'Who says he's better than a D-League level?'

Ice Age had complained several times by this point, including to the referees.

The Pelicans had other ringers, whose names they also withheld--specifically #66 whom they called 'Rob.' 'Rob' was not on the roster and had 4 points but was within the realm of plausibility for D League. The also had a ringer #20 with a goal and two assists and a ringer #30 with an assist and a penalty. None of these players were on the roster, just as 'Ales' who wore #26 was not on the roster.

'Alex' stood out like a sore thumb, however, and there was no getting around the fact that he should not have been playing.

Had the game been anywhere near fair or even remotely even, I would have let it slide, but when shots are 29-2 in the beginning of the second period, the game was officially grotesque. Without 'Alex' the game still wound up at shots of 53-12, with the Pelicans thus shooting more than 4 times as much as Ice Age.

Although the long-haired player who acted as the Pelicans' captain had the temerity to argue as a last resort, 'Who says he's not a D-League player,' he was lying to himself and nobody, including the kid (who, by the way, was likely not yet 18 years old) could reasonably argue he was a D-League player.

All the Pelicans could do was huff and puff about being called on an illegal player, but huff and puff they did.
