Providence, the second smallest team in the state this year (Redmond is smaller, with 11 players), took it to the wire against Lake Washington. It was a great matchup. Both teams are used to scoring tons of points in a game, but this was an intense defensive battle. LW defense was led by their All-American Spencer Mueller. Providence defense was led by senior Paul Johnson and sophomore goalie Jackson Morris who had 17 saves.

Both teams fought for 10 mins without a goal. Finally, LW freshman Beau Hiemdahl scored with 2 mins left in the first quarter. Providence senior Aidan Walsh answered back a minute later. The only score in the 2nd Quarter was LW senior Sasha Oelsner. The 3rd quarter was won by Providence as freshman Matt Stoebe and senior Matt Morris scored the only goals. Providence led at the end of the 3rd quarter 3-2. But LW senior Eli Singstad scored one min into the 4th quarter to tie the game at 3-3. And both teams fought hard the next 11 mins with no goals. Providence middies were visibly exhausted as they missed a couple of catches and passes. But they held the LW offense ... until the last 8 secs. In a scrum, Eli Singstad picked up a GB and flicked it into the goal for the winning score!

Providence shutout LW's top three scorers, but LW had enough other good players to make up for it.

Providence has 54 students in their HS and 15 players on their team, including two 8th graders. Only 12 of them got playing time in the game.
