Playoff game, March 6, 2010 This late evening playoff game between the 2nd and 3rd place teams had a late start, and the Falcons were ready to repeat last weeks triumph over the Titans. Julian Piamonte started out the game with an exciting layup for 2 off his own rebound, great way to follow your shot! Lorenzo Lau also used his own rebound to score after his foul shot missed, and Avi Graber was on fire tonight scoring 13 points. The Falcons had a tough time keeping the big guy, Tanner, from scoring, but were able to defend their other top scorer, Evans, who was forced to pass more than usual. Jarrod Cleto did his part to get keep up defenses and get to the foul line, and Alafia Oluwasogo was much more aggressive under the net tonight on defensive rebounds which helped keep the game moving in a positive direction. Lorenzo Lau was super aggressive on defense doing his very best to force the Titans to pass the ball around. After half time, only 6 points back, the Falcons came back with renewed vigor. Matt Bishop was trying his best to sink the 3-pointer, but Avi Graber was the first one to get one in from outside the arc! Alafia Oluwasogo was out there to win and got his first score of the season, and assisted Avi Graber on a few more. Jarrod Cleto had a great hook shot on a fast break. Daniel Long was stronger on defensive rebounding tonight than on scoring but got 2 points off an assist from Avi and one 3-pointer after a missed foul shot. Julian Piamonte was held to only 6 points tonight. There were some great scoring attempts by all the Falcons, but the ball was rolling around on the rim and not falling in. Matt Mendoza had a season high number of assists and was doing his best to cover the Titans defensively, showing marked improvement in knowing where to be. Nolan Dacumos was strong on defense making the Titans work hard for their points, but unlucky on the foul line. In the end the Falcons were not able to catch up, but played hard and never gave up. They were short one key player, and in the end that may have made a difference, however they can feel proud for trying to adjust and make the best of it. A positive attitude is what made the game fun anyway. Congratulations go out to the team for an exciting season, and to Coach’s Dan Cleto and Dan Dacumos for a great job getting their boys to the playoffs this year.
